Leaky Facuet

A leaky faucet is one of the things that can drive a person up the wall. A small leak wont flood your house but it can sure be annoying and a waste of water. The good news is that you won’t break the bank trying to fix it, it is more about your experience and comfort level in doing so. Here at Handyman Kitchener, I have fixed my share of faucets and can fix yours in a timing manner! Give me a call at

There can a few reasons why a tap is leaking. It can be a worn-out gasket or washer, an O ring that is loose or even corrosion in the valve. Once we start to take the faucet a part, we can determine the cause.

The first step when we go to fix the faucet, is to turn the water supply off to that tap. If we can’t turn off the water for only that tap then we will need to turn off the water supply for the house.

Next, we need to remove the tap. This will change depending on the model and make or if it’s a kitchen tap, bathtub faucet, or a shower head. It will normally just require a screwdriver or hex key and removing a screw.

We will then remove the cartridge or stem from the faucet. This is the piece that regulates the flow of hot and cold water through your tap. Should only need a wrench to loosen the packing nut.

Let me help you complete your To-Do List!

After we have taken out the old stem or cartridge and have determined this is the cause of the leak, we can then replace it! All faucet stems and cartridges are different so using the make and model as a reference will make finding the replacement much easier. Before installing the new stem, we will clean the area and check if the O rings are in good shape.

Now that the new stem or cartridge is installed, we can reattach the faucet. Once reattached, it is a good idea to run both cold and hot water for a few min to insure there aren’t any leaks and to make sure the aerator isn’t clogged.

Now you can rest easy at night knowing you don’t have money going down the drain (quite literally) Although this is a fairly simple fix for some, it can be stressful for others so give me a call at Handyman Kitchener 226-243-6859 and let me handle this very annoying problem for you!
